Ashley Vance is a soprano vocalist and choral conductor in her final semester of graduate study in Choral Conducting at Syracuse University. Her undergraduate degree, awarded in 2020, is in Vocal Performance from Trevecca University in Nashville, Tennessee. After graduating, she continued working with choirs in the Nashville area, such as the Nashville Symphony Chorus, Vocal Arts Nashville, and Trevecca Chorale. She worked extensively with Vox Grata Women’s Choir as a soprano, soloist, and conducting intern. She also collaborated with several church and community choirs, and taught a private voice and piano studio of ~30 students. Some of her solo vocal experiences in Nashville include Joseph Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass in 2021 with Trevecca University, Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in 2023, David Brunner’s All I Was Doing Was Breathing with Vox Grata in 2024, and four full-length vocal recitals. She worked as music director for Gallatin First United Methodist Church, where she led the chancel choir and praise band, and co-founded a nonprofit music academy through the church. Her last project before she moved to Syracuse for graduate school was music-directing Oliver! with Hendersonville Performing Arts Center, where she conducted and played piano in the pit orchestra.
Ashley currently serves as a Teaching Assistant for the choral department at Syracuse University, where she teaches Crouse Chorale (the auditioned treble ensemble) and University Singers (the premiere auditioned mixed ensemble). Some of her conducting performances include Ariel Ramírez’s Misa Criolla, excerpts from Herbert Howell’s Requiem, Vaclav Nelhybel’s Estampie Natalis, and Paul Basler’s Alleluia. Her solo vocal performances in Syracuse include a world premiere and recording of Natalie Draper’s The Cloths of Heaven, a full voice recital in October 2025, Ola Gjeilo’s Spotless Rose, and Amahl in Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors. Additionally, she made her debut at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. as a Vocal Apprentice in the summer of 2025 with Berkshire Choral International, singing as a soprano and soloist in Craig Hella Johnson’s Considering Matthew Shepard, conducted by Jeffrey Benson.
Ashley also serves as choirmaster at Pebble Hill Presbyterian Church, media manager for Vox Grata, and maintains a small private studio. In addition to her involvement with the choirs at Syracuse University, she sings with Schola Cantorum, a local chamber ensemble. After graduation, Ashley plans to continue a career in choral conducting and professional choral/solo singing.
